William Fenner senior *?? - +1589. English captain and pirate.

He was the father of William Fenner Jr..

Since 1567, his nephews Edward and George Fenner were sailing with him. They operated together from the Channel to the west coast of Africa. They attacked the Spaniards, the Portuguese, and the French.

In 1588, with the AYDE ship he took part in the successful defence of England from the attack made by the Portuguese-Spanish Felicissima Armada (Invincible Armada, Innercible Armada, Grand Armada). See Juan Martínez de Recalde.

In 1589 he took part in the military expedition of Armada (Contra Armada, Invencible Inglesa) to Spain and Portugal under the command of Admiral Francis Drake. The invasion finished as a complete catastrophe. During the fight at Lisbon, William Fenner senior was killed. See Don Martín de Bertendon y Goronda.

 

Edward Fenner *1550?? - +1595. English captain and pirate.

From 1567, he was sailing with his brother George and Uncle William Fenner senior. They operated together from the Channel to the west coast of Africa. They attacked the Spaniards, the Portuguese, and the French.

In 1588, as the captain of the SWIFTSURE, he took part in the successful defence of England from the attack made by the Portuguese-Spanish Felicissima Armada (Invincible Armada, Innercible Armada, Grand Armada). See Lord Charles Howard, 1st Earl of Nottingham (Howard Effingham).

In 1589 he took part in the military expedition of Armada (Contra Armada, Invencible Inglesa) to Spain and Portugal under the command of Admiral Francis Drake. The invasion finished as a complete catastrophe. See Maria Mayor Fernández de Cámara y Pita.

During the last unsuccessful expedition of Francis Drake to the Caribbean in 1595 he was killed during the attack of Spanish ships. See Gonzalo Méndez de Canço y Donlebún.

 

George Fenner *1550?? - +1589. English Pirate.

From 1567, he was sailing with his brother Edward and uncle William Fenner senior. They operated together from the Channel to the west coast of Africa. They attacked the Spaniards, the Portuguese, and the French.

Francis Fletcher *1555 - +1619. English clergyman and pirate.

He was a clergyman of Anglican church and shortly a rector at the University of London. After his resignation, since 1576, he devoted himself to preparing Drake's expedition around the world in 1577-80 on the GOLDEN HIND (PELICAN). There he acted as a ship chaplain. After the execution of Thomas Doughty, he was in disfavor at Francis Drake (see Peter Carder). He also drew maps and wrote a diary.

After his return from the journey around the world, he continued on the spiritual work. In 1593 he became a vicar in Yorkshire. In 1605 he married Margaret Gallard.

His notes from the journey around the world became the basis for the book The World Encompassed by Sir Francis Drake, which was published in London in 1628.

 

Thomas Fenner *1550?? - +1591. English captain and pirate.

He was a close friend of Francis Drake.

As a young sailor, he sailed with pirates. He acted in the Atlantic and Caribbean. He pillaged Spanish ships and settlements.

In 1588, as the captain of the NONPAREIL, he took part in the successful defence of England from the attack made by the Portuguese-Spanish Felicissima Armada (Invincible Armada, Innercible Armada, Grand Armada). See Sir  Jo hn Hawkins.

In 1589 he took part in the military expedition of Armada (Contra Armada, Invencible Inglesa) to Spain and Portugal under the command of Admiral Francis Drake. The invasion finished as a complete catastrophe. See Maria Mayor Fernández de Cámara y Pita.

From the point of Spain and Portugal view, he is a pirate and robber. From the point of view of England, he is a captain and patriot.

 

George Fortescue *1550?? - +?? English Pirate.

He was a member of Francis Drake's crew since 1563 and participated in all of his journeys to the Caribbean. Together, they pillaged many Spanish ships, towns and settlements.

He was also on the GOLDEN HIND (PELICAN) ship of Vice-Admiral Francis Drake on an expedition around the world in 1577-80.

William Fenner Jr. *1570?? - +1600?? English captain and pirate.

He was the son of William Fenner senior.

They operated together from the Channel to the west coast of Africa. He attacked the Spaniards, the Portuguese, and the French.

Later, he pillaged Puerto Santo in Madeira.

 

Thomas Farrington *1670?? - +1710?? The English pirate operated in the Caribbean. He was a member of the captain Daniel Plowman crew of the corsair ship CHARLES.

CHARLES sailed from Boston in July 1703 to a corsair expedition against the French and Spanish ships. Shortly after the departure, the captain Daniel Plowman became ill and because of his quarantine he stayed in his cabin. The crew, led by quartermaster Anthony Holding, however, rebelled and chose Lieutenant John Quelch as her captain. At the end of September, Captain Daniel Plowman died of fever.

Later, on the shores of Brazil, they pillaged nine Portuguese ships and they received valuable cargo of weapons, skins, sugar, cloths, boxes of gold dust and money. At that time, however, an alliance was made between Portugal and England. Therefore, the English Admiralty, following a report from Portugal about the looting of their ships, issued an arrest warrant for the whole crew. In May 1704, the CHARLES ship landed in Marblehead today in the state of Massachusetts where unsuspecting crew broke away with their share of prey. Within a week, most of the crew, including Thomas Farrington, were caught and imprisoned.

At the beginning of June, he was brought to Boston for trial. On the basis of testimony of crew members, Thomas Farrington was found guilty and sentenced to several years in prison.
